Our Founder
Harshada Bansal embarked on her entrepreneurial journey driven by a deep-rooted passion for transforming the tea industry. With a family legacy in tea going back four generations to her herbalist great-grandfather, she witnessed firsthand many of the adverse practices and the discrimination ingrained in the industry. While she thrived at her father’s company, cultural barriers prevented her from taking over his tea business, as such opportunities were typically reserved for men. Undeterred, she questioned tradition and forged her own path.
Harshada founded The Tea Heaven with a clear goal and purpose in mind: to create exceptional, farm-to-cup tea through ethical practices while empowering and uplifting women. A first-generation immigrant, she remains dedicated to using her Seattle-based company to provide women in India opportunities for advancement, equality, and independence.
Ethically-Made Tea
There are a few major issues that have long been a concern in the tea industry. The lack of regulation in many regions can lead to the production of substandard products, the exploitation of workers, and environmental degradation. Large-scale tea plantations can result in deforestation, loss of biodiversity, and soil and water contamination from the excessive use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
By fostering relationships directly with small farms, we are able to be very selective and ensure that environmentally-friendly practices are in place, that workers are treated well, and that only the finest and freshest leaves make it into our teas. We've also taken it a step further and designed eco-conscious tea bags which are hand-crafted from naturally biodegradable organic muslin cotton. We hope that you can taste our commitment to sustainability in every nourishing, plastic-free sip.
